The world’s population now stands at 7 billion plus a few extra. That’s a lot of zeros and a lot more actual people.
Coinciding with the arrival of the worlds 7 billionth person on the 31st of October 2011, National Geographic released their year-long project looking at the growing global population and asking the question: are you typical?
Through some interesting stats and figures on the diverse nature of the global population, and the interesting projection of what a “typical” human looks like, the National Geographic team give a pretty good overview of a very complex topic.
the [sameness] project is a movement about the entire global population, that’s you plus 7 billions something others. Finding where you and everyone else fits is a good place to start when trying to balance the diversity of the global population with the idea that each of those 7 billion is worth the same amount.
The year-long project is available as an App, which goes into a lot more depth, and offers an interactive look at the challenges the future holds for an ever growing population.
