[ dabble ] Beyond Right and Wrong

Beyond Right and Wrong: Stories of Justice and Forgiveness is a documentary following the victims and the perpetrators of conflict as they walk a journey of personal and corporate reconciliation.

With examples drawn out of the Rawandan genocide, the conflict in Northern Ireland and Britain, and the Israel/Palestine violence among others, the film talks to those that have consciously participated in conflict, those that have directly suffered from it and those caught up in it. The focus is not on the rights and the wrongs of each situation, but on finding the human story and choosing to erase the lines that separate and feed the cycle of conflict, leading to a very powerful case study in reconciliation.

This piece from the films website probably sums it up best:

After the blood has dried, treaties are negotiated and screams have turned to silence, victims and perpetrators face an uneasy and painful peace. All wounds have not healed. The eighty minute film portrays the resilience of humanity when facing the chasm between rage and acceptance.

We love works like this that approach situations from a human perspective, asking questions that often get lost amongst the common narratives. We haven’t had a chance to see the film yet, but when we do you will get a full review, unless you’ve seen it already, then you can give us a full review right now (please) (smiley face).

Meanwhile you could ponder this…

What do you think the hardest aspect of reconciliation is?

Can reconciliation work on larger scale than just the individual?
